"There Should Be a Law" Consistency Position

So, there is this idea that if someone doesn't like something, they say, "There should be a law!" This can hit with pollution, smoking, or even eating meat and so much more. So, in the spirit of these idiots, I have come up with my own "There should be a law!" law. Here goes.

Okay, so I still attend college and once again, we get Martin Luther King Jr. Day off. Okay, no biggie right? Well, hold on a second. Why should we have that day off? Now, stay away from race at the moment, and let me explain.

See, most universities in the nation subscribe to this all-powerful idea of "affirmative action" (AA), except for a few and Michigan is one of them since the 2006 vote. Now, if a school subscribes to this idea, then they believe in some way, the color of someone's skin is important. Now, why would this invalidate MLK Day? Well, let's go to his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Here is the relevant line.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
Hmm... Now I read this as he didn't want anyone judged by skin color. So, where would he stand on AA? Yeah, I thought so.

So, that is my reasoning. I believe that any university that is gung ho about AA should be disallowed from even acknowledging MLK Day. Now, that is consistency, ain't it?

By the way, in terms of disclosure, when I was a freshman in college, we had some idiot speaker for MLK Day. Of course, I asked him point blank this question, would MLK be in favor of AA, and he brushed me off. Basically he implied that blacks deserved extra treatment or something. Change blacks to whites and you get David Duke's position. Wow! See what fun consistency can be?

Consumers Want Green? Not Really. They Rather Save Green (as in money).

In this article, the author discusses retail stores not really emphasizing green purchases for the holidays. However, it is not the author that I want to quote. There is one guy quoted that is a heckuva lot smarter than most. Just check out these two quotes from Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at research firm NPD Group. (I don't know what that is; I just copied it straight from the article.)

The consumer is consumed with other things, and very rarely have they ever endorsed and embraced the green endeavors.

It's basically a card that a lot of people played while it was hot and trendy. And it got overplayed.
Wow, who would have thought that would be emphasized?

But, this guy has a point. How many non-environmental wackos go out of their way to shop at a green store? Probably not many. Then again, how many environmental wackos go out of their way? Once again, actually, probably not many. That is what is nice about the market. If people really believed in the orthodoxy of the religion of the environment, then stores would go out of their way to meet those beliefs. Since they aren't doing more than just PR stunts, I can safely say that most people aren't taking Al Gore's Kool-Aid. (No offense to Kool-Aid.)

Man, I love when smart people actually get quoted in mainstream news when they believe something different than standard ideology.

Finally Updated

Well, it has been awhile again since I have been able to blog, but hopefully I can put up 3 or 4 posts in the coming day and a half. I just have to clean up a few of my away messages to remove some profanity. Check back soon.

WIll Someone at the NFL Figure Out the Stupid Local Rules?

So, in Oakland, because the Raiders can't sell all their tickets, the people in that market get to watch the game that has been promoted all bloody week, New England at Indy. Well, unfortunately for me, too many idiots decided to go to the Cleveland Browns game. Turns out if they sell all the tickets, the game is broadcast locally. Except, only one issue. See, the Browns game in on Fox. But wait, NE/Indy is on CBS. So, because they think some of us who don't care about the Browns won't watch, we can't see the game they have been wasting my time talking about all week. See, you would think they would rather give me the choice. If I live in the local market, if I really wanted to see the Browns, oh yeah, I could have bought a ticket. Or, I could just watch the game on Fox. Why should non-Browns fans be punished? It isn't like the fans can't pick the game that interests them.

So, the NFL has a screwy policy. You know what will be nice? Hopefully I can move to an area next year that doesn't have a stupid team so I can get the popular game rather than infomercials so the other network won't have competition. Stupid local access rules. This one is even worse. I would have understood if CBS was showing both the Browns and the Colts. That I at least could have understood. But when the Browns are on Fox? Nope, that is just plain stupid.
