Green MBA? Just Go Away
So, back to crap on Yahoo! News. In this article, different business schools are trying to teach business students to be "green" when they work for companies. Only one problem. Green programs at companies have to be approved by shareholders or it is theft and abdication of the principle-agent relationship. Famous economist Milton Friedman wrote about this idea you can read at this link. Tat is the problem. I have to wonder if these business schools are going to teach students that if they recklessly spend money on green operations, it isn't the students' personal money they are spending; it is the owners of the company's money.
By the way, you have to wonder about the inherent bias in this article, and I am not even talking about the idiocy of the programs. The three places listed in the article are all from the west coast and all are small time places. When the article mentions larger schools, they all over something environmental, but it isn't the focus of the school. (Most of these are probably to appease extremist environmentalists and to provide a service for loony lefty students while still teaching actual business practices for the ordinary business students.)
Ultimately these programs are a fad. And, just like all fads of the past, they will go away. I have to hope sooner rather than later. (Now if only we could get Algore to promise that if the planet isn't destroyed by his deadline in a few years that he will go out and shoot himself and save us all.) I just wish the ACLU would be as gung-ho about separation of church and state when the church is the Religion of the Environment. Why should they get to promote their "true faith beliefs" but other religions are denied that right? I may not be religious, but when Catholics are shunned on campus, but the extremist environmentalists are welcomed, something is wrong with that picture.
