Readin' Books or Not

So in this article, a survey found 1/4 of people don't read books. Okay, no big deal, right? Yep. See, there is more than reading books. Some people read magazines or newspapers, some even read blogs and other online material. Some people prefer books on tape or movies. Reading is something that those who do it enjoy and those who don't avoid, just like rock climbing or organized sports. If something is a passion, people will go out of their way to do it.

Thankfully, I am nowhere near even the average reader. Actually, am nowhere near the median for male or female readers. (They were quoted at 4 books for average, 5 median for men, 9 median for women.) I would be much closer to those random few who read a dozen or more books in a year. I don't know how many books I have read in the past year, but during the past weekend or so, I read three books. (I shudder to count all the books I have read in the past year.) Let me just say, my current library of over 850 books is not that big by accident.

I will say, the good thing about this story is it doesn't preach a new government solution. I understand there are people out there who hate reading, just as I know I hate exercising. Now if only books were a little cheaper so I wouldn't be so broke after buying 5 of them at a time.
