Truth? Actually Anti-Truth when it comes to Smoking
So those idiots at "Truth" (whatever that is), the smoking Nazis, have another ad on TV complaining about cigarettes in The Muppet Movie. So the guy claims the Muppets were aimed at kids. Hmmm...maybe. Then again, have you seen that movie? I don't remember it too well, but seems like there were quite a few adult jokes in it. (Kinda like how Shrek appeals to adults, not only children.)
So are the "Truth" ads truthful? Not really. They tend to forget what year it is. How many people really die from cigarettes who started smoking since 2000? Yeah, not many. And frankly, I don't care about people who smoke, who started smoking AFTER the bloody warning was put on the package. Should we worry about people who drink antifreeze? Yeah, I don't think so. That is because it says it will kill you on the dang package!
Tying in with this, the MPAA wants to give movies that "glorify smoking" an R-rating? Hehe, that is going to work. I wonder if any one in the MPAA organization has a dang brain? Do they even have kids? Yeah, the way to get kids to not do something is to ban it. That ALWAYS works. Can I put more sarcasm in? Eh, not really. I would also mention, having worked in a movie theater, that an R-rating really, REALLY doesn't stop kids from seeing the movie. And if a movie is going to be R simply because of cigarettes, not violence or sex, then how many parents are even going to care? At least with sex and violence there was some sort of bad thing parents might care about. Smoking? No way in anything. (Man, trying to not swear is pretty hard with these morons. They deserve a lot worse.)
Anyway, here is to enjoying the book and movie Thank You for Smoking. A great film that illustrates idiocy and spin and good deeds gone bad.
