Johnny Edwards Needs to Shut Up Quickly!!
John Edwards, the former Senator and trial-lawyer turned seance leader, decried the high gas prices! Too bad Johnny doesn't have REAL psychic ability. He might not have voted against drilling in ANWR up in Alaska. What do I mean?
Well, gas prices are high because oil prices are high. (Ignore refineries for the moment.) Oil prices are high because demand is high and supply is low. If you don't understand that concept, please trust me and then take an introductory economics class since that is the first concept taught.
Now, according to econ, to lower prices we can do one of two things. 1) Lower demand. 2) Increase supply. Now, Johnny wants us all to stop using gasoline. Sure, but shouldn't he start first to be honest with himself? I mean, I drive maybe 50 miles a week at the moment (giving an extreme estimate). How far does Johnny travel? Oh yeah, I use a personal car, about 20 some miles per gallon. I don't fly anywhere. What about good ol' Edwards? Seems to me I remember he had a PRIVATE jet and actually travels all over the place. So, how much oil does he use in a week? (I use about 2 gallons or so, give or take a gallon.)
Ok, that was part one. Sorry Johnny, you ain't there yet. Shut up!
Part two, increase supply. Ok, now here is where refineries come in. We could have 80 billion barrels of oil, but if we don't have refinery capacity, eh, we ain't got gas. Heard of any new refineries for oil being built? Yeah, I didn't think so. Is that Johnny's fault? I can't say that. But, I am betting he received campaign contributions from people who are at fault. Leave it at that.
Ok, imagine we had refinery capacity. Could we lower the price of oil? Sure, we can increase supply of oil pretty easily. But oh yeah, remember that ANWR thing I mentioned? Yeah, we got problems. Turns out that the Senate ("Here's Johnny") decided that we couldn't drill for oil in Alaska; it wouldn't be safe. Yes, John Edwards voted against drilling. So hmm...what does that mean?
Turns out Johnny is not that innocent. Actually, he is part of the problem. Guess he really needs to shut up quickly!
