Jimmy Carter: Peanut for a Brain
So Jimmy Carter has come out and said George Bush's administration is "the worst in history" regarding foreign affairs. Yeah, you know what, I don't think so. Then again, to really argue this point with Jimmy-peanut, you really have to well, not laugh in his face. Bush has the worst foreign relations? This coming from the guy who let Americans be held captive for more than a FRIGGIN' YEAR! Yeah, Jimmy, you sure are a great source.
Mind you, I would listen to him to if he came from the position, "I screwed up so I know when someone else does." But, that ain't Jimmy Carter. Nope, he is the "I am the best in the world and no one can talk bad about my supposed failures cause I started Habitat for Humanity." Yeah, that doesn't fly with me.
So let's actually compare Bush to others. So what has Bush done? Well, assuming the Dems don't find some balls and end the war and that they are right we are in a "quagmire," then ok, is Bush the only one to do that? Nope, sorry. When Lyndon Johnson left office, we were stuck in Vietnam. So that can't be it. What is another usual liberal complaint? Oh yeah, Bush has no foreign allies. Hmmm.... When FDR died in office, we were stuck in World War II, France basically didn't exist, and we were great allies with Great Britain and the Soviet Union while Germany and Italy and Japan couldn't stand us. (We were at war!) So, what is today's state of the world? Well, Britain technically is an ally, so is Japan, and Australia. I am not sure about Italy, but France is now going to become closer. Hmm... yeah, FDR wasn't looking that good, even though victory ended up being pretty close, mostly due to Truman having some serious guts.
Ok, so how does Jimmy Carter fare? Hmm... we had hostages in Iran, war with the Soviets was a real possibility, and nobody liked Japan because they had a much better economy. Actually, that is a big part of the problem when we only look at foreign policy. Carter, yeah, not a very competent domestic policy. Inflation was high, unemployment was high, and people were pretty bad off. How are they today? Yeah, comparing the two is like comparing King Kong with a monkey. There are some big differences. They may be the same thing, but one is a heckuva lot bigger and more dangerous. So too were Carter's domestic mistakes. The economy is so much better today that it is almost hard to imagine - well, it is hard to imagine - what life was like back then.
Ultimately, should Carter even open his mouth? No, I don't think so. And that shows what type of person Carter really is. Unlike Reagan, who went off to the "twilight of his life" away from the public eye (even before his Alzheimer's diagnosis), Carter just won't go away. He thinks he is President still. So I guess my question is. Why the hell is still on the loose and not put in a mental institute like every other nutjob that thinks THEY, and not George Bush, are the President? Ahh, a question for the ages.
