Immigration Debate: Are We Back In the 1850s?

On CNBC just now, there was a debate about the effects of the immigration bill that just came before Congress. One guy called it amnesty, which it is. Then the host asked, just, an amazing question. He asked something along the lines of would reform hurt industries like agriculture. Hmm... Actually, that got me thinking. Wasn't that the same argument that helped keep slavery in the South? Wasn't the argument we can't outlaw slavery because the South's economy would collapse? Oh yeah, it was.

Now, some might argue that slavery is in no way equivalent to illegal immigration since the illegals "choose" to come here. Ok, a fair point. However, it is not entirely accurate. You see, while most illegals choose to come here, that is true, if they actually worked to support themselves and their illegal families, the discussion would be a bit different. But, when the illegals decide to live off the public, then we are back into the slavery discussion.

Now, there is another issue in this debate that most liberals conveniently forget. You see, these illegal immigrants are ILLEGAL! They should not be rewarded. And if liberals in Congress keep trying to, well, maybe it would be time for some ordinary Americans to, umm...steal from a Congressman's house. Take some of their dang stuff. Yeah, it is illegal, but remember, they will give you amnesty right? Theft, illegal border crossing, what's the difference? (By the way, Congress needs to petition the President to pardon the people charged with what some call "illegal downloads," but are really just "undocumented media.") I mean, why should copyright law be so special? Shouldn't citizenship be more important? So, should this bill pass the House and Senate and be signed by President Bush, there should instantly be a rash of thievery against politicians. And as you know, it would be pretty darn legal, right? They have to give everybody amnesty. If not, claim discrimination based on citizenship status as the illegal bastards are claiming. Sweet!

Here's to a good haul should that need to happen!
