Can the Media ever NOT be Biased?
So this past week, Presidential candidate Sam Brownbeck accidentally insulted Green Bay Packers fans by mentioning Peyton Manning instead of Brett Farve. Afterwards, he tried to cover himself by mentioning old school star Bart Starr and then Farve. Yep, a mistake. But is it really news?
In 2004, Presidential candidate John Kerry insulted Michigan Wolverine fans by sitting in Ann Arbor and mentioned heated rivals, Ohio State Buckeyes. Was that news? I will let you decide.
There were a few differences between the two. 1) Kerry was the Democrat nominee, not running for the nomination of his party like Brownbeck. 2) Kerry didn't know he made a mistake unlike Brownbeck who at least tried to recover (ultimately failing miserably). And 3) The Indianapolis Colts aren't really the rivals of the Packers. Yeah, there are two teams you don't congratulate in Ann Arbor: Ohio State and Michigan State. I don't know if Green Bay fans can say the same. Maybe the Bears or Vikings, but I don't think the rivalry is that heated.
So was this news? No, not really. It doesn't need to be mentioned on Yahoo! every single day. I mean, Kerry's worse gaffe was barely mentioned. So is the media biased? Do I even need to ask?
